The Sale of the Year

Last weekend, I was enjoying the warm weather with my roommate while taking a midday stroll through our charming little neighborhood. We happened to walk past a yard sale and this bag caught my eye.

And one of the vintage bags I snagged!

[The bag that started it all]

I walked over and picked up and told B how cute I thought it was. Suddenly, I hear the woman who lives there tell me, "Isn't it cute? It's only a quarter!"

My response: "You're joking, right?"

"Nope!" she happily told me, "It's closeout time... EVERYTHING is a quarter."

We'll have to check with B, but I'm pretty sure my jaw was on the ground. For that price, I couldn't afford NOT to paw through the piles and piles of yard sale goodies.

While searching for treasures, I chatted with the woman and her family. Turns out that her great aunt recently passed away after living a life full of passion for style, shopping, and sewing. I can definitely identify with those things so it makes me happy that this woman's style can sort of live on through me.

One of the vintage hats I picked up today!

[One of the hats I snagged]

I ended up taking home lots of vintage goodies, many still with their tags on them: several skirts & tops, a few bundles of fabric, two giant bags of assorted sewing notions (e.g. lace, buttons, etc.), several hats, a hat box, a handful of bags and clutches, and.... this dress--all for a mere $5! And would you believe this dress was one of the several things I snagged that still had the original tags on it?

Makeup Monday: H&M Spring Nails

I may have accidentally acquired seven new colors for my polish collection over the weekend--oops! I think I might have a problem...

Anyway, four of them came from H&M... how have I never noticed before that H&M has nail polish? I picked up the purple/coral mini-collection from their spring nails collection.

Whenever I get a new color, I want to try it right away. But I only have two hands so my lovely roomie was kind enough to let me paint her nails with the coral color.

I love it! I'm super stoked to try out the rest!

Makeup Monday - Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Lip Pencil

I'm a sucker for beauty products that I totally don't need and this matte lip pencil is no different. The minute I saw this red color in my activity feed on Kaboodle, I fell in love.

I want all six colors available at Sephora, but I think the pomegranate would be my favorite. I hope I get a chance to try this stuff out soon!

Makeup Monday - Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

I almost never wear mascara on my bottom lashes, I think I stopped doing that somewhere around 8th grade. Since then I've come to find out that a lot of people believe that wearing mascara on your bottom lashes make you look older than you are. So you would think I wouldn't be as interested in the product as I am, but let's face it--I'm a mascara addict. That's why today, I'm wishing for Clinique's Bottom Lash Mascara ($10).

What do you think--would you try mascara specially designed for your bottom lashes?

Gotta Have This Dress

Oh my gosh, I've been dying over this coral Milly dress since the moment I saw it on Net-a-Porter! The bow, the neckline, the color; it's perfect for me! I desperately need it in my spring/summer wardrobe!

To try and stop myself from buying it, I made a styleboard with the dress as the centerpiece! That didn't help too much because I found the perfect outfit--I need ALL of it now.

Things That Made My Day

Today was the first day in my company's new office and I was actually fairly pleased with the changes this brought to my daily life. Today was pretty hectic though, so I didn't have time to do much exploring and I haven't found a place to take photos yet. That will have to wait a bit.

Here are things that made my day:

-The longer commute ended up being a lot less painful than anticipated. Hooray for pleasant surprises!

-I sorta like my new workspace. Can't wait to Adiel-ify it a bit more!

-The views from my new office!

Closet Purge and Playing Decorator

While I live in an apartment with a decent-sized room and a decent-sized closet, the one thing I constantly struggle with is space for all of my stuff. Admittedly, one reason for this could be that I just have too much stuff. Considering that as an option, I took some time to go through my closet and take out clothes I haven't worn in a while. Closet-purging has always been hard for me; in fact, you'll probably see me on "Hoarders" in about 50 years. But I removed a pretty decent pile of clothes--go me! I'm going to spend the next week getting the guts to do the same with my 100+ pairs of shoes.

Room Decor (4)

In the meantime, I've also decided to kill two birds with one stone by using some of my accessories to decorate my room. I filled up the shelves on my headboard and I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out.

Room Decor (5)

I've also been on the hunt for dress forms of all sizes to decorate with. I came across an abundance of them while visiting family in Utah, but didn't purchase any since I wouldn't be able to get them home easily. I've been bummed about that missed opportunity. All that changed when I payed a visit to Ross on a total whim this past weekend. It's one of my favorite places to find affordable decorations for my home, I can almost always find something--and this visit was a total jackpot. I finally found some dress forms! I'm pretty pleased with how well my new purchases fit in.

Next up on my decor to-do list is to do something about the terrible blinds and maybe actually put something up on my walls.

Also, can I just say how amazing Space Bags are? Oh my gosh, they have done wonders for storage in my modest apartment. I'm just so thrilled, I could shout it from the rooftops!

What tips and tricks do you have for small apartment organization and decoration?

Shopping I Love: Miya

My mother has been trying to take me to what she calls "her boutique" during my last few trips to visit my family in Utah. However it didn't happen... until my trip this past weekend. I finally made it to Miya. And wow. I'm super bummed that it's taken so long for me to get there because this place is awesome!

Miya

Miya

Miya

The clothing is adorable and the selection is great! The prices are very reasonable as-is, but during this particular visit, they had quite a bit on sale--up to 75% off! I also loved the unique jewelry selection here. Lots of chunky necklaces, chains with pendants, and beaded or metal goodness. And let's not forget the scarves and handbags! There was also a lot of adorable home decor and furniture; I guess they do a lot of custom interior design as well. Honestly, I felt like the buyer for this store had a very similar taste to my own--I wanted to buy up the entire inventory! However, since I'm trying to shop less, I only left with two lovely tops for me and one for my sister--all for about $60.

I honestly never would have expected a little gem like this to exist in little ol' Syracuse, Utah. I drive by Miya every time I go to my mother's house, but the standalone brick building never really caught my eye. I've got to say, even if you don't live in the area, this place is worth the trip.

New, New, New

Behold, it's the unveiling of my new shoes! I was super worried about the comfort-level on these babies, but as it turns out, they're not too bad! Also making the debut in this outfit is the jacket! I've been eyeing this jacket for a couple of weeks, but my local Target was out of my size. However, I recently found out from some co-workers that the jacket runs a bit big so one size down worked perfectly for me! Hooray!

Maxi Comfort

I'm sure it's no surprise that this outfit was super comfortable. I adore layering all sorts of things with black maxi dressed, which is why I know have two. This outfit took me from just another day at the office to a quick trip to the mall with my roommate where I snagged the new H&M faux shearling jacket and an awesome pair of black wedges from Forever 21. Hopefully you'll see both in outfit posts soon. Stay tuned...

A Dress to End the Summer

Recently, I went shopping at one of my favorite local stores, Therapy, with a friend. I love shopping with this gal because neither of us has a problem with spending hours in one store looking at every piece--which is exactly what we did! We left no stone unturned in that store and we tried on half the clothing in the store. She made out like a bandit, leaving with armfuls of clothing. I was able to keep control of my wallet for once and only left with two additions to my closet, a sheer black button-up and this dress. Thanks to the gals at Therapy for picking out this dress for me--it was the perfect dress to carry me through the end of summer!

Case Chase

I mentioned a while back that I was considering getting an iPad.
Well, I did. I got it.
After mocking it since it came out, I am now an iPad owner.

And I love it.

So now...
I'm on the hunt for some awesome iPad cases. These are six that are topping my list right now.

ipad,cases,houndstooth,owl,manila folder,rib cage

1. I'm a sucker for houndstooth so it's no surprise that I fell in love with this case from Etsy seller blytheking the instant I saw it.
2. Aw, this angry little owl case from Etsy seller BoutiqueID is too adorable!
3. Not only is this bag by CaseCrown super cute, but it's the perfect size for an iPad.
4. I love how sleek and functional the DODOcase is--not to mention the fact that it looks like a simple moleskine notebook.
5. A case that looks like a manila envelope? Two thumbs up to this case sleeve from BoxWave.
6. Honestly, how rad is this RibCage case from SwitchEasy? Love it.

Check out these and my other iPad finds here.

Have you come across any fab iPad cases? Please share?

Indie Mart Fun

I attended Indie Mart in San Francisco this past weekend with a small group of friends. I was there to shop the collections of local vendors, but I found myself dying to shop off the people walking around the event. The people there were oh-so-stylish, I couldn't get over it! I had to settle for scooping up and handful of pretty sweet finds: a dress, a vintage vest, woven leather flats and an adorable mini telescope necklace. Keep and eye out for these goodies in future outfit posts!

I had my hands too full to pull out my camera for most of the time, but I did take a moment to free my hand to snag a photo of this guy dressed up in a "hug menu" costume. Too funny!

The Doctor's Orders

Since last October, I've been having really intense pain in my left foot at random times throughout the day. It doesn't matter if I'm wearing heels, flats, boots, or no shoes and it doesn't matter if I'm walking, sitting, standing or lying down. I don't recall any one event occuring that caused the injury, but I'm pretty sure it's just caused by my love of wearing really high heels.

I recently went to the doctor to have it looked at. I wasn't having the pain while at the doctor's (of course!). She couldn't find anything wrong with it so she asked me to avoid heels, handed me a pamphlet on bunions and sent me for an x-ray. The x-rays came back normal.

So...
Now what?

My doctor's advice suggests flats.
But...
I like heels. A lot.
I own very few pairs of flat shoes and more than half of those are boots. With the weather warming up, I won't be wearing my boots much anymore. I guess that means I need to buy more flats. The trouble is, flat shoes have never really appealed to me.

I made a list of styles of flats I could consider buying and I've come to realize my taste in flats is verrrrry expensive.

Where do you look for cute and affordable flats?
