The Sale of the Year

Last weekend, I was enjoying the warm weather with my roommate while taking a midday stroll through our charming little neighborhood. We happened to walk past a yard sale and this bag caught my eye.

I walked over and picked up and told B how cute I thought it was. Suddenly, I hear the woman who lives there tell me, "Isn't it cute? It's only a quarter!"

My response: "You're joking, right?"

"Nope!" she happily told me, "It's closeout time... EVERYTHING is a quarter."

We'll have to check with B, but I'm pretty sure my jaw was on the ground. For that price, I couldn't afford NOT to paw through the piles and piles of yard sale goodies.

While searching for treasures, I chatted with the woman and her family. Turns out that her great aunt recently passed away after living a life full of passion for style, shopping, and sewing. I can definitely identify with those things so it makes me happy that this woman's style can sort of live on through me.

I ended up taking home lots of vintage goodies, many still with their tags on them: several skirts & tops, a few bundles of fabric, two giant bags of assorted sewing notions (e.g. lace, buttons, etc.), several hats, a hat box, a handful of bags and clutches, and.... this dress--all for a mere $5! And would you believe this dress was one of the several things I snagged that still had the original tags on it?

I mentioned that my coworkers like to classify my outfits and give me a prop to go with the outfit. This outfit was dubbed spring-chic and all I need to complete the outfit is lemonade!

Pretty Poppy

I went out for karaoke and a drunk guy at the bar stopped me and asked, "Excuse me, is that a poppy on your wrist?"

"Yes, it is," I answered.

"What does that mean to you?" he inquired.

"Uh, it's a pretty piece of jewelry."

He then proceeded to tell me a story about poppies that I no longer remember.

Drunk people make me laugh.

I need suggestions for good karaoke songs, I never know what to sing! I wanted to sing Best for Last by Adele, but they didn't have it so I sang Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners. What's your go-to karaoke song?

Something-Chic

My coworkers never fail to come up with some sort of description for whatever look I manage to make it to work in. One gal always suggests a prop for me, like, "All you need is a picnic basket/bicycle/bongo/etc..."
 Once I was told I looked like a hipster mannequin, but that could have had a little something to do with the fact that I was immitating a Barbie doll. However, I most frequently get that I'm [insert random category here]-chic. For instance, my looks have been called doll-chic, himalayan-chic, hipster-chic, and, my favorite, 'Big Love'-chic (ha!).

Today, I was called tribal-chic and all I needed was a buffalo! (Thanks KJ! ;)

After the Rain

 I was out and about running errands on Saturday and I knew I had to dress for the rain. I wasn't feeling the whole "jeans tucked into rain boots" thing so I went in a different direction--this is what I came up with.

It dried up in the afternoon and I was able to take these rainy day outfit photos outside without an umbrella.

Awesomesauce Ali

I've been internet buds with Ali for a few years and we only met for the first time last month when I went to NYC. When I met her, she was wearing this GORGEOUS necklace that I could stop staring at.

Well, yesterday I get back from lunch and there is a brown box sitting at my desk--I just LOVE surprise packages! I open it up to find the GORGEOUS necklace. She sent it to me, just because! Can you believe it!? She is the sweetest!

A Hint of Green

I'm sort of a fool and wore most of my favorite green clothing earlier this week so I had to make do for St. Patrick's Day with shamrock-colored accessories.

A Walking Valentine

I didn't really think about it till I was halfway to work, but I sort of looked like a walking Valentine in this outfit with the heart lockets, love ring, and red tights. In actuality, this outfit was inspired by all the red leather pants I've been seeing in street style photos across the interwebs. Not only do I not own red leather pants, but I just don't think I could pull them off. I love the look though, so I decided to pull out the red tights.
