Beauty Review: Glee Chic Prints for Nails

I've become a big fan of nail strips since trying out the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips. I snagged a set of polka dot print strips from Sephora a while back and I finally got around to trying them out this week.

The Application Process
The process of putting them on is very similar to other strips I've tried in the past. With any brand, it's crucial that your nails are bare and clean of any natural oils. Picking a proper size strip for each nail is very easy because of the clear backing they are on; you can hold it over your fingernail and judge the size. Once you've picked a size, you rub the strip with your finger to heat it up, peel the strip off of the backing, then place on your nail. Rubbing out air bubbles is super easy and then you just use a nail file to remove the excess length.

 

The Verdict
As I write this post, it is now day three of wearing the strips. I was disappointed with how quickly they tips started to wear off and the edge peeling up--it was the very next day! The print is constantly being complimented when I'm out and about. It's hard not to compare these strips to Sally Hansen's, but I've just got to. These are much thicker than the SH strips; a lot more like a sticker as opposed to actual polish. I put a top coat on today to try and get another extra day or two out of them, but the cost is just not worth how long they last. Final thought: Proceed with caution and try at your own risk!

Channeling My Grandmother's Style

I've been wanting to write a little something about my grandmother who passed last month. The trouble is, I haven't been able to come up with words that really convey what I want to say.

While I was in Utah for her funeral, I was able to take some things to remember her by. Going through her possessions and looking through the memories of her life was sad, but it also made me sort of happy. My grandmother was a great woman who lived a very full life, abundant with love.

My grandmother was a very classy and artistic woman and I'm happy to be able to carry those very characteristics on by finding new uses for her worldly possessions. I've already featured pieces from her jewelry collection in latest outfit posts, but this is the first time that I've incorporated a piece of her clothing into my outfit. This top came from my grandmother's closet and it made me feel closer to her to wear it, to carry her style on in my own life. I keep hearing my dad's voice in my head say, "She would be so thrilled to know you like her things."

I'm also very excited to frame some of her old fashion sketches from the 1950's. Soon, I will also be receiving her sewing table and machine along with all of her supplies--including a big box of vintage patterns! It makes me happy to realize how very similar our interests and tastes in style are. I feel honored to be following in her footsteps.

My memories of her will never be forgotten. I love you, grandma!

Katie Holmes For Kamiseta Clothing

Katie Holmes is the new face of Kamiseta, a fashion company here in the Philippines. The 32-year-old actress joins Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, Petra Nemcova, and Alicia Silverstone who have modeled for Kamiseta.

Emma Watson’s Alberta Ferretti Collection

After the release of Emma Watson’s Last People Tree Collection, the young celebrity has just revealed the images of her new collection Alberta Ferretti. Known as Pure Threads by Emma Watson Alberta Ferretti, the line is made from from eco-friendly materials like cotton poplin, cotton muslin, and hemp.

The collection pieces range from $345, to $1,173. The part of the proceeds will be donated to People Tree.

Spotted: Time for Polka Dots

With how busy I was with my trip to NYC in February, I totally missed out on the last Everybody Everywear challenge. Lucky for me, they have another one coming up on Monday, March 8th! This time, everybody is supposed to wear polka dots! I don't know about you, but I love polka dots so I'll be joining in--will you?
